Just got kernel-2.6.8.1 booting up with all the optimizations I could possiby do and it seems pretty decent on my EPIA-M 6000. The whole kernel takes ~3 secs to load.
I think if I can manage linuxbios to run in 2 secs the total boot up time for indashpc would be ~10 secs. Not bad.
